Living Hope in a Faithful God

Today's Reading

Old Testament
  • Jeremiah 32-34

New Testament
  • 1 Peter 1

Devotion

In Jeremiah 32, while Jerusalem was under siege, God instructed Jeremiah to buy a field as a sign that houses, fields, and vineyards would once again be possessed in the land. It seemed foolish in the moment, but it was a declaration of hope rooted in God’s promises. Jeremiah 33 continues with God’s assurance of restoration, declaring that He will bring healing, forgiveness, and joy back to His people. In Jeremiah 34, however, we are reminded that God also deals seriously with sin and broken covenants, as He condemns the people’s failure to keep their word of release to their fellow Israelites.

In 1 Peter 1, believers are reminded that through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, we have a living hope and an inheritance that can never perish, spoil, or fade. While trials may come, they refine our faith and point us to the joy of salvation. Peter also calls us to holiness, reminding us that we are redeemed not with perishable things but with the precious blood of Christ.

Together, these passages reveal a God who is both faithful to restore and holy in His judgments. Jeremiah’s field purchase was an act of faith pointing to God’s future promises, just as Peter’s words direct us to anchor our hope in Christ. No matter how uncertain or painful the present may feel, God is trustworthy. He calls us to live as people of hope, holiness, and faith.

Reflection Questions

  1. Where is God calling me to step out in faith today, even when it doesn’t seem practical or immediately rewarding?
  2. How does remembering my inheritance in Christ help me endure trials with joy and perseverance?
  3. What area of my life is God calling me to grow in holiness, reflecting His character more clearly?

Prayer

Faithful God, thank You for the living hope I have in Christ and for Your promises that never fail. Strengthen my faith when circumstances seem dark, and teach me to trust You fully. Help me to walk in holiness, to remember the cost of my redemption, and to live with the joy of salvation in my heart. Amen.
