New Testament

Devotion

The prophet Micah presents a powerful picture of God's promise and God's requirements. He foretells the coming of a ruler from an unlikely place, one who will shepherd God’s people and bring lasting peace. The final chapters of Micah turn the spotlight on God's character and what He truly desires from His people—not empty rituals, but lives that reflect His heart. It is a call to justice, mercy, and humility in every step of life.

In Matthew 25, Jesus teaches about readiness, faithfulness, and compassionate living through three parables. Each story centers on the return of the King and the expectation that His people would be prepared—not just with words, but with lives fully surrendered and active in love.

These two passages, though separated by centuries, point to the same truths: God’s people are not merely to believe, but to embody what they believe. Humble obedience matters. Faithfulness with what God entrusts to us matters. Caring for others, especially the most vulnerable, is not optional—it’s essential.

We live between the first and second comings of Christ. Micah speaks to the hope of His first arrival; Matthew challenges us to live with expectation for His return. As we wait, we are called to a way of life shaped by God’s justice, God’s compassion, and God’s vision for His people.

Reflection Questions

  1. In what areas of your life do you sense God calling you to greater humility, justice, or mercy?
  2. What gifts, opportunities, or responsibilities has God entrusted to you that you might be neglecting or underusing?
  3. Who in your daily life might be experiencing need—physically, emotionally, or spiritually—and how can you serve them as an act of love?

Prayer

Heavenly Father, Thank You for Your promise, Your justice, and Your mercy. Help me to walk with You in humility and faithfulness. Stir my heart to serve those around me with compassion and intention. May my life reflect Your kingdom values while I wait for the return of Jesus. Teach me to be wise, ready, and generous with all that You’ve placed in my hands. Amen.
