Devotion
In Exodus 38-40, the construction of the Tabernacle is completed, and God’s glory fills it. The Israelites obey every instruction given by the Lord through Moses, demonstrating their reverence for His holiness. When the work is done, a cloud covers the Tabernacle, and God’s glory fills it so fully that Moses cannot enter (Exodus 40:34-35). The visible presence of God dwelling among His people is a powerful reminder of His faithfulness and desire to be near those who worship Him in obedience and reverence.
Hebrews 1 reveals the ultimate fulfillment of God’s desire to dwell with His people: Jesus Christ. The passage begins with the declaration that God has spoken to humanity through His Son, who is “the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of His being” (Hebrews 1:3). Jesus is greater than the angels, for He is the eternal Son of God, seated at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven. Through Christ, we no longer need a physical Tabernacle to experience God’s presence; He Himself is the perfect revelation of God’s glory and the mediator of the new covenant.
These passages together remind us of God’s unchanging desire to dwell among His people and reveal His glory. The Tabernacle in the wilderness was a temporary solution, pointing forward to the coming of Jesus, the eternal Word who became flesh and dwelt among us (John 1:14). Just as the Israelites carefully followed God’s instructions to prepare a place for His presence, we are called to prepare our hearts to receive and reflect His glory in our lives.
The glory of God that filled the Tabernacle now fills us through the Holy Spirit, making us His living temples (1 Corinthians 6:19). This reality should inspire awe and gratitude, leading us to worship and serve Him wholeheartedly. As we reflect on the greatness of Christ revealed in Hebrews 1, we are reminded that He is not only the radiance of God’s glory but also the One who sustains all things by His powerful word.
