Devotion

Faithfulness rarely happens by accident. It’s the result of choosing God again and again, especially in moments of pressure, fear, or failure.

In 1 Kings 15 and 2 Chronicles 13–14, we meet kings who reflect both the struggle and the strength of returning to God. Abijah, though flawed, calls upon the Lord in battle and experiences divine help when he leads Judah in reliance on God. His son Asa begins his reign by seeking the Lord wholeheartedly, removing idols, and leading the nation in reform. Because of his trust, Judah experiences rest and peace for many years. Asa’s story reminds us: when we return to God, He is ready to respond with strength and peace.

Titus 3 gives us the theological foundation for that hope. Paul reminds us that we were once foolish, disobedient, enslaved by passions—but God, in His kindness and mercy, saved us. Not because we were good, but because He is good. He renews us through the Holy Spirit and calls us to live differently—not in quarreling or division, but in gentleness, humility, and good works that flow from grace.

When we stray, God calls us back. When we return, He empowers us to live with courage and conviction. Whether you’re starting over, standing firm, or seeking peace, remember: God’s strength is available to those who seek Him with their whole heart.

Reflection Questions

  1. Are there areas of your life where you’ve grown passive or distant from God?
  2. How does God’s kindness and mercy motivate you to live differently today?
  3. What would it look like for you to lead others in returning to God, like Asa did?

Prayer

Lord, thank You for Your kindness that leads me to repentance. When I drift, draw me back. When I’m weak, be my strength. Help me to seek You with my whole heart and to live a life that reflects Your mercy and grace. Amen.
