Today's Reading

Old Testament
  • Isaiah 64-66

New Testament
  • 2 Corinthians 2

Devotion

Isaiah 64 begins with a heartfelt cry: Oh, that You would rend the heavens and come down. The people of Israel, aware of their sin and brokenness, plead with God to act once again, to come with power and mercy. They recognize that even their best efforts are like filthy rags compared to God’s holiness. Their cry is not just for forgiveness, but for revival—for God to move, cleanse, and restore.

This longing leads into Isaiah 65 and 66, where God responds. He reminds His people that He is not distant or unaware. He has been calling out, even when they weren’t listening. His promises remain for those who humble themselves and seek Him. He speaks of creating new heavens and a new earth, a place of peace, joy, and justice. The closing chapter offers both warning and hope: God is looking for those who are humble and contrite in spirit, who tremble at His word.

Psalm 66 echoes the spirit of worship that follows divine renewal. God’s mighty acts inspire awe, and His refining work—even through hardship—leads to deeper praise. He does not abandon those who call on Him in truth.

In 2 Corinthians 2, Paul shifts to a different but connected theme: how God works through His people. Paul speaks of forgiving others and walking in love, but he also uses a striking image: those who follow Christ carry the fragrance of Christ in the world. To some, this fragrance is life; to others, it may be confusing or even offensive. But for believers, we are a part of something sacred. We are evidence of God’s triumph in Christ—living proof that His Spirit dwells in us and works through us.

Together, these passages call us to examine our hearts, seek renewal, and then walk forward with a sense of purpose. When we allow God to refine and restore us, we become vessels through which His glory is known. Our lives become a fragrance—a testimony of mercy, grace, and resurrection power.

Reflection Questions

  1. What areas of your life feel like they are in need of God’s refining or renewing presence, as described in Isaiah 64?
  2. How are you responding to God's voice when He calls you to deeper humility or obedience?
  3. In what ways is your life currently reflecting the fragrance of Christ to those around you?

Prayer

Father God, I come to You with a heart that needs Your refining fire and gentle mercy. Forgive me for when I’ve turned away from Your voice or tried to walk in my own strength. Renew me by Your Spirit. Shape my life so that it reflects the beauty and truth of Christ. Make me a vessel of grace and a fragrance of life in a world longing for hope. Amen.
