Courage in Chaos, Hope in Christ

Today's Reading

Old Testament
  • Jeremiah 39-41

New Testament
  • 1 Peter 3

Devotion

Jeremiah 39–41 records the fall of Jerusalem. The city is captured, leaders are judged, and the people face devastation. Yet, amid this chaos, God protects Jeremiah. Even in the darkest moment of judgment, God shows that He cares for those who trust Him. The story is raw, filled with betrayal, fear, and confusion, but it also testifies that God’s word is always true and His hand remains over His faithful servant.

In 1 Peter 3, believers are urged to live with hope, even in suffering. Peter calls Christians to be prepared to give an answer for the hope they have, but to do so with gentleness and respect. He reminds them that suffering for doing good is far better than suffering for doing wrong, and that Christ Himself suffered for sins, once for all, to bring us to God. Just as Jeremiah remained faithful during chaos and persecution, Peter encourages us to stand firm, knowing that God honors those who endure with integrity and hope.

Together, these passages remind us that God’s people may face turmoil, but courage rooted in Him gives strength. Our testimony shines brightest not in times of ease, but in times of trial.

Reflection Questions

  1. Where do I see chaos or uncertainty in my life right now, and how can I trust God’s protective hand like Jeremiah did?
  2. Am I prepared to give an answer for the hope I have in Christ? How can I do so with gentleness and respect?
  3. How does remembering Christ’s suffering for me strengthen me to endure my own challenges faithfully?

Prayer

Lord, You are my refuge even when the world feels unstable. Help me to stand firm in Your truth and to live with courage and hope. Teach me to respond to opposition with gentleness and respect, pointing others to the hope I have in Christ. Thank You for Jesus, who suffered to bring me to You. Strengthen me to follow His example each day. Amen.
