Old Testament

New Testament

Devotion

In Daniel 10–12, the prophet receives one final, powerful vision. An angel appears to him, radiant and overwhelming in glory. The sight leaves Daniel trembling and speechless, but the messenger touches him and says, Do not be afraid, you who are highly esteemed. Peace! Be strong now; be strong. Though Daniel is given a glimpse into future struggles—wars, kings, and spiritual battles—he is also reminded that God’s purposes are secure and His people will ultimately be delivered. Even when the future seems uncertain, God’s strength sustains those who trust in Him.

In John 20, we see the fulfillment of that hope in the risen Christ. The disciples, fearful and disoriented after the crucifixion, encounter Jesus alive again. He appears to Mary in the garden, calling her by name. He shows Thomas His wounds, transforming doubt into faith. And to His disciples, He breathes peace and says, As the Father has sent me, I am sending you. The resurrection turns fear into courage and despair into mission. The same God who strengthened Daniel through vision now stands victorious over death, offering new life and peace to all who believe.

Both passages reveal a powerful truth: God’s presence gives strength in the face of fear and hope in the face of uncertainty. Daniel was told to stand firm even when the world seemed to shake; the disciples were called to proclaim life even after walking through grief. In every age, God’s message is the same—do not be afraid. The battle belongs to Him, and the victory has already been won through Jesus.

Reflection Questions

  1. Where do I need to be reminded that God is in control, even when life feels uncertain or overwhelming?
  2. How does the resurrection of Jesus change the way I face fear, grief, or doubt?
  3. What would it look like for me to live with the same peace and strength Jesus gave His disciples after the resurrection?

Prayer

Lord, thank You that You are alive and reigning today. When I feel weak or afraid, remind me that Your power is greater than anything I face. Breathe Your peace into my heart, and give me strength to stand firm in faith. Help me to live as a witness of Your victory and to bring hope to others through Your risen life. Amen.
