Devotion
God often works in quiet courage long before His deliverance becomes visible.
In 2 Chronicles 22–23 and 2 Kings 11, Judah is plunged into darkness after the wicked queen Athaliah seizes the throne and kills off the royal family. But in the midst of fear and chaos, one woman—Jehosheba—acts with quiet bravery. She hides Joash, the rightful heir to the throne, in the temple for six years. Her courage, and the faithfulness of the priest Jehoiada, eventually lead to the restoration of the Davidic line. God’s promise wasn’t destroyed—it was preserved in secret, waiting for the right moment to be revealed.
Psalm 131 captures this same spirit with different words: a calm and quiet soul. The psalmist confesses that he has let go of pride, striving, and worry, and instead rests in God like a child with its mother. There is strength in stillness. Trust doesn’t always roar—it sometimes whispers.
In Matthew 8, Jesus displays His authority with power—healing the sick, calming storms, and casting out demons. Yet He marvels not at strength, but at simple faith. A Roman centurion believes Jesus can heal with just a word. A group of disciples discover that even the wind and waves obey Him. And a man possessed by demons is set free when no one else could help. In all these moments, Jesus meets fear with peace, uncertainty with power, and chaos with calm.
These passages remind us that God’s deliverance may begin in hidden places, His power may come through quiet trust, and His Kingdom often advances through unlikely people. Whether you are called to act boldly like Jehosheba or rest calmly like the psalmist, God is always at work—restoring, healing, and fulfilling His promises.

Reflection Questions
- Where might God be calling you to courageously protect or nurture something sacred, even if no one else sees?
- Are there areas of your life where you need to quiet your soul and trust like a child in God’s arms?
- How has Jesus recently revealed His authority or presence in the middle of your fear or uncertainty?
Prayer
Lord, give me the courage to act when You call, even if my obedience is hidden from the world. Quiet my heart and teach me to trust You like a child, knowing You are in control. Thank You for being the God who sees, who saves, and who restores. Amen.
