Devotion
The book of Proverbs continues to speak with clarity and conviction in chapters 16–18. One theme echoes throughout: true strength is found in surrender to God’s wisdom and ways.
“Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and He will establish your plans.” (Proverbs 16:3)
“Better a patient person than a warrior, one with self-control than one who takes a city.” (Proverbs 16:32)
In a culture that praises assertiveness and dominance, God calls us to humility, patience, and trust. Our words have the power to give life or to destroy (Proverbs 18:21), and the Lord weighs not just our actions, but our motives and hearts (Proverbs 16:2).
Proverbs 17–18 remind us that peace and wisdom are more powerful than strife and pride:
“A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.” (Proverbs 17:22)
“The name of the Lord is a fortified tower; the righteous run to it and are safe.” (Proverbs 18:10)
In Romans 15, Paul builds on this foundation of wisdom by urging believers to bear with one another, pursue unity, and imitate Christ’s humility:
“We who are strong ought to bear with the failings of the weak and not to please ourselves.” (Romans 15:1)
“May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you the same attitude of mind toward each other that Christ Jesus had.” (Romans 15:5)
Here is the picture of a wise and Spirit-filled life: we live not for ourselves, but for the good of others, for the glory of God, and for the hope of the nations.
The gospel is not just a personal rescue—it’s an invitation into a life of patience, encouragement, and peace. God’s wisdom and grace work hand in hand to shape a people who trust Him, speak life, and build up one another in love.

Reflection Questions
- Where do you need to surrender your plans or motives to the Lord and trust Him to establish your steps (Proverbs 16:3)?
- Are your words this week more life-giving or life-draining? What changes might God be prompting you to make?
- In what ways can you bear with others in love and reflect Christ’s humility in your church, home, or workplace?
Prayer
Father, thank You for being my strong tower and wise guide. I surrender my plans and pride to You today. Help me to walk in patience, speak with kindness, and live with purpose—not to please myself, but to serve and glorify You. May the love of Christ shape my words, my actions, and my heart. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
