Called to Holiness and Endurance
Today's Reading
Old Testament
- Numbers 3-5
- Hebrews 12
Devotion
In Numbers 3-5, God gives instructions regarding the Levites, their roles in serving the Tabernacle, and the importance of purity within the camp. The Levites were set apart for God’s service, responsible for caring for the sacred things of worship. Additionally, God commands that the Israelites maintain holiness by removing impurities and making restitution for wrongs. These laws reflect God's desire for His people to be set apart, both in service and in purity.
Hebrews 12 urges believers to run the race of faith with perseverance, keeping their eyes on Jesus. The chapter reminds us that God disciplines those He loves, shaping us to share in His holiness: “No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it” (Hebrews 12:11). We are encouraged to throw off every hindrance and run with endurance, trusting that God is leading us toward His perfect plan.
Together, these passages remind us that we are called to holiness and endurance. Just as the Levites were set apart for God’s work, we too are called to live lives that honor Him. Holiness isn’t just about outward purity but about having a heart fully devoted to God. And when we face challenges, Hebrews 12 encourages us to endure, knowing that trials refine us and bring us closer to God's purposes.
Following Jesus requires both dedication and perseverance. Like the Levites, we are called to serve God faithfully. And like the runners in Hebrews 12, we must fix our eyes on Christ, setting aside anything that slows us down. God’s discipline is not a burden but a sign of His love, shaping us to be more like Him.
