Choosing God's Voice Over All Others
Today's Reading
Old Testament
- 1 Samuel 28–29
- 1 Chronicles 9
- Acts 19
Devotion
In 1 Samuel 28, we see Saul in a desperate place. Instead of seeking God's voice with patience and humility, he turns to a medium for answers — a tragic mistake that highlights his disobedience and fear. Saul’s actions remind us that when we turn away from God, we lose our footing and our peace.
In 1 Samuel 29, David’s story runs in contrast to Saul’s. Even though David faces uncertainty, God protects him and removes him from fighting against his own people. God’s providence works behind the scenes when we stay surrendered to Him, even when our path doesn’t make sense at the moment.
1 Chronicles 9 shifts our view to a hopeful restoration: the returned exiles rebuilding and resettling. God always makes a way for His people to come home, no matter how scattered or broken they have been.
In Acts 19, we see the powerful work of the Holy Spirit through Paul. True revival happens when people recognize the difference between counterfeit power and the true authority of Jesus Christ. Many in Ephesus renounce their old ways, burn their sorcery books, and follow Jesus wholeheartedly.
Today, God invites us to reject the world’s false voices, trust His providence, and walk boldly in the true power of His Spirit.

Reflection Questions
- Where are you tempted to seek answers apart from God’s Word and Spirit?
- How have you seen God’s unseen hand protecting and guiding you, even when you didn’t understand at the time?
- What “old ways” might God be asking you to lay down so you can fully walk in the power of the Holy Spirit?
Prayer
Father, teach me to trust Your voice above all others. Help me reject anything counterfeit that draws my heart away from You. Thank You for Your unseen protection and for always calling me back to You. Fill me with Your Spirit today so that I may walk boldly and faithfully in Your power. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
