New Testament

Devotion

In Numbers 12-14, we see both rebellion and faith being tested. Miriam and Aaron speak against Moses, doubting God's chosen leader, and as a result, Miriam faces judgment. Later, the twelve spies return from scouting the Promised Land, but ten of them bring a report full of fear and doubt. Only Joshua and Caleb trust God’s promises, yet the people choose fear over faith, leading to God's judgment: they will wander the wilderness for 40 years because they refused to trust in His power.

Psalm 28 is a cry for help and a song of praise. David pleads with God for mercy and strength, then declares, “The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in Him, and He helps me” (Psalm 28:7). Even in distress, David chooses trust over fear, knowing that God is his protector.

Colossians 2 reminds us of the fullness we have in Christ. Paul warns against deceptive philosophies and legalistic practices that take our focus off Jesus. Instead, we are to remain rooted in Him, knowing that we have been made alive in Christ:

"So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in Him, rooted and built up in Him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness." (Colossians 2:6-7)

These passages challenge us to trust God fully. Like the Israelites, we often face moments where fear tempts us to doubt His promises. But Psalm 28 and Colossians 2 remind us that God is our strength, and in Christ, we are complete. Fear and doubt should not rule our hearts—faith and trust in God’s promises should.

Joshua and Caleb chose faith when others gave in to fear. Will you trust God even when the situation seems impossible? Will you remain rooted in Christ rather than being swayed by doubts and worldly concerns? The choice is ours—to live in fear or to stand firm in faith.

Reflection Questions

  1. Are there areas in your life where fear is keeping you from fully trusting God?
  2. How can you remain rooted in Christ, as Colossians 2 encourages?
  3. What steps can you take today to replace doubt with faith, like Joshua and Caleb?

Prayer

Lord, help me to trust in You even when fear and doubt try to take hold. Strengthen my faith like Joshua and Caleb, so I can stand firm on Your promises. Thank You for being my strength and shield, my ever-present help in times of trouble. Keep me rooted in Christ, growing in faith, and overflowing with thankfulness. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
