Trusting in God's Leadership

Today's Reading

Old Testament
  • 1 Samuel 6-8
New Testament
  • Acts 7

Devotion

In 1 Samuel 8, the Israelites demand a king to lead them, rejecting God as their true ruler. Though Samuel warns them of the consequences, they insist on having a human leader like the surrounding nations. Their desire reveals a lack of trust in God's perfect leadership.

How often do we, like Israel, look to human solutions instead of relying on God? We seek security in earthly things—success, power, or approval—rather than trusting that God is enough.

In Acts 7, Stephen boldly preaches before the Sanhedrin, recounting Israel’s history of rejecting God's messengers. Despite their rebellion, God remains faithful. Stephen’s unwavering trust in God, even as he faces martyrdom, is a powerful contrast to Israel’s misplaced trust in human leadership.

No matter the challenges we face, God is the only true King. When we trust in His leadership, He will guide us far better than any human wisdom ever could. As Psalm 23 reminds us, He leads us in paths of righteousness, and we lack nothing in Him.

Reflection Questions

  1. Are there areas in your life where you are trusting in human solutions instead of God's leadership?
  2. How can you respond with faith and boldness, like Stephen, even when facing opposition?
  3. What steps can you take to surrender control and allow God to lead your life completely?

Prayer

Heavenly Father, forgive me when I place my trust in human strength instead of Your perfect leadership. Help me to fully rely on You, knowing that You are my true King. Give me the boldness of Stephen to stand firm in my faith, no matter the cost. Lead me in Your wisdom and truth. In Jesus' name, Amen.
