A Heart Devoted to God

Today's Reading

Old Testament
  • Deuteronomy 6-9
New Testament
  • Luke 7

Devotion

In Deuteronomy 6-9, Moses passionately reminds Israel to love and obey God with all their heart, soul, and strength. He emphasizes the greatest commandment:

"Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength." (Deuteronomy 6:5)

Moses warns the people not to forget God when they enter the Promised Land. It is God’s power and grace—not their own strength—that will sustain them. Humility and gratitude are essential in following Him.

In Luke 7, we see incredible examples of faith: the Roman centurion’s humble trust in Jesus, the widow whose son was raised to life, and the sinful woman who anointed Jesus’ feet in repentance. Jesus praises their faith and devotion, showing that true faith is not about status or religious acts but about a heart surrendered to God.

God calls us to love Him fully and trust Him completely. Like Israel, we must remember that all we have comes from Him. Like the centurion and the sinful woman, we must approach Him in humility and faith.

Where is your heart today? Are you loving God with everything you have? He desires not just our words but our whole-hearted devotion.

Reflection Questions

  1. What are some ways you can love God with all your heart, soul, and strength today?
  2. Are there any areas where pride or self-sufficiency is keeping you from relying on God?
  3. How can you demonstrate faith like the centurion or the sinful woman in Luke 7?

Prayer

Lord, I want to love You with my whole heart. Help me to remain humble, grateful, and fully dependent on You. Strengthen my faith, that I may trust You in every situation and worship You with my whole life. Thank You for Your grace and love. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
