Courageous Faith in Uncertain Times

Today's Reading

Old Testament
  • Judges 4-6
New Testament
  • Luke 21

Devotion

The book of Judges is filled with stories of God using unlikely people to accomplish His purposes. In Judges 4, we see Deborah, a prophetess and judge, leading Israel with wisdom and courage. When Barak hesitated to step into battle, she boldly reminded him of God’s promise of victory. Later, in Judges 6, we meet Gideon, who doubted his ability to lead. Yet, God called him a “mighty warrior” and used him to deliver Israel.

Both Deborah and Gideon show us that God does not call the qualified—He qualifies the called. Even when we feel weak or uncertain, God strengthens those who trust in Him.

In Luke 21, Jesus speaks of difficult times ahead—persecution, suffering, and trials—but He also gives a promise:  "By your endurance you will gain your lives." (Luke 21:19)

The world may seem unstable, and challenges may arise, but God remains in control. Just as He led Deborah and Gideon to victory, He will strengthen us to stand firm in faith.

Are you facing fear or uncertainty today? Remember that God sees more in you than you see in yourself. He calls you to trust Him, step out in faith, and walk in the strength He provides.

Reflection Questions

  1. In what areas of your life do you feel weak or unqualified? How can you trust God’s strength?
  2. How does Jesus’ teaching in Luke 21 encourage you to stand firm in your faith, even in trials?
  3. What step of faith is God calling you to take today?

Prayer

Lord, thank You for calling me even when I feel weak. Help me to trust in Your strength and step out in faith like Deborah and Gideon. In uncertain times, let me stand firm in Your promises, knowing that You are always in control. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
