A Life of Trust and Surrender
Today's Reading
Old Testament
- Deuteronomy 15-18
- Psalm 115
- Luke 9
Devotion
In Deuteronomy 15-18, God instructs His people to live with open hands and obedient hearts. He calls them to care for the poor, release debts, and trust Him as their provider. He also establishes the need for godly leadership—priests, judges, and a future king—who must follow His commands and lead with righteousness.
One key verse reminds us of God’s provision and our call to generosity:
"Give generously to them and do so without a grudging heart; then because of this the Lord your God will bless you in all your work and in everything you put your hand to." (Deuteronomy 15:10)
Psalm 115 shifts our focus from earthly power to God’s sovereignty. It declares that idols are powerless, but the Lord is alive and in control. Our trust must be in Him alone, for He is our help and shield.
In Luke 9, Jesus challenges His disciples to radical faith. He sends them out to preach, feeds the five thousand, and foretells His suffering. He calls His followers to deny themselves and take up their cross daily:
"Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me." (Luke 9:23)
These passages remind us that true faith means trusting God, surrendering our plans, and living for His kingdom. Just as Israel was called to generosity and obedience, we are called to hold nothing back from God. Like the disciples, we must trust Jesus even when the path is difficult.
Are you holding anything back from God today? He calls you to trust Him completely, surrender fully, and follow Him boldly.
