A Life Set Apart for God
Today's Reading
Old Testament
- Numbers 6-7
- Hebrews 13
Devotion
In Numbers 6, we read about the Nazirite vow—a special dedication to God that involved abstaining from wine, avoiding impurity, and not cutting one’s hair. This vow symbolized a life fully set apart for God’s purposes. At the end of the chapter, we find the beautiful priestly blessing:
"The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make His face shine on you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn His face toward you and give you peace." (Numbers 6:24-26)
Numbers 7 recounts the leaders of Israel bringing offerings to dedicate the Tabernacle, showing their willingness to give to the Lord and honor His presence.
In Hebrews 13, we see practical instructions for living a holy life. The chapter encourages us to show hospitality, honor marriage, avoid greed, and trust in God's never-failing presence:
"Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever." (Hebrews 13:8)
The call to live set apart for God is not just for those who take a Nazirite vow but for all believers. We are called to offer our lives as a sacrifice of praise, living in a way that reflects our dedication to Him. Just as the Israelites brought their gifts to God in Numbers 7, we are invited to bring our lives as an offering, trusting that He is faithful.
God’s blessing in Numbers 6 reminds us that He desires to keep us, shine His face upon us, and grant us peace. Hebrews 13 reassures us that we do not walk this journey alone—Jesus is the same, unchanging, and always present to guide and strengthen us.
