Walking in the Light and Strength of Christ

Today's Reading

Old Testament
  • Numbers 8-11
New Testament
  • Colossians 1

Devotion

In Numbers 8, the Levites are set apart for service to God, purified and dedicated for their work in the Tabernacle. This act of consecration reminds us that God calls His people to be holy and devoted to Him. In Numbers 9, the Israelites are instructed to celebrate the Passover, remembering God’s deliverance, while also learning to follow His guidance through the cloud that covered the Tabernacle. Numbers 10-11 show both the faithfulness of God in leading His people and the struggles of Israel in trusting Him. Despite His provision, they grumbled, longing for the comforts of Egypt rather than trusting in God’s perfect plan.

In Colossians 1, Paul praises Jesus as the image of the invisible God, the One through whom all things were created and by whom all things are held together. This chapter reminds us of the supremacy of Christ and His work of redemption:

"For He has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son He loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins."(Colossians 1:13-14)

These passages together show the contrast between human weakness and God’s perfect strength. The Israelites struggled to trust God’s provision, forgetting His faithfulness. But Colossians 1 reminds us that in Christ, we have everything we need—redemption, forgiveness, and the assurance that He holds all things together.

Like the Levites, we are called to be set apart for God’s work. Like the Israelites, we must learn to trust in His provision rather than grumbling about what we lack. And in Christ, we find our firm foundation—He is our guide, our Redeemer, and the One who strengthens us for the journey.

Reflection Questions

  1. In what areas of your life is God calling you to greater trust in His provision?
  2. How can you avoid the temptation to grumble and instead cultivate gratitude?
  3. What does it mean to you that Jesus holds all things together in your life?

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for calling us to be set apart for Your purpose. Help us to trust in Your provision and guidance, even when the journey is difficult. Forgive us for times when we complain rather than trust. Thank You for Jesus, who holds all things together and has redeemed us from darkness. May we live each day in gratitude and faith, walking in the light of Your presence. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
