Trusting God’s Power and Grace
Today's Reading
Old Testament
- Deuteronomy 1-3
- Psalm 36
- Luke 5
Devotion
In Deuteronomy 1-3, Moses recounts Israel’s journey, reminding them of both their failures and God's faithfulness. Though they doubted and rebelled, God remained steadfast, leading them to victory over their enemies and preparing them to enter the Promised Land. Moses emphasizes that it is God who fights for them:
"Do not be afraid of them; the Lord your God Himself will fight for you." (Deuteronomy 3:22)
Psalm 36 paints a contrast between human wickedness and God's unshakable love. Despite the corruption of the world, God’s faithfulness reaches to the heavens, and His righteousness is like the mighty mountains. He is our refuge and the source of life.
In Luke 5, we see Jesus calling His disciples, healing the sick, and forgiving sins. Simon Peter, after witnessing the miraculous catch of fish, falls at Jesus' feet, saying:
"Go away from me, Lord; I am a sinful man!" (Luke 5:8)
But instead of rejecting Peter, Jesus calls him into a greater purpose:
"Do not be afraid; from now on you will fish for people." (Luke 5:10)
These passages remind us that God is both powerful and merciful. He fights for us, leads us, and calls us into His purpose, even when we feel unworthy. Like Israel, we may have doubts. Like Peter, we may feel undeserving. But God's grace is greater than our failures, and His power is at work in our lives.

- Do you ever feel unworthy of God’s calling? How can you respond in faith like Peter?
- How can you step into God's purpose for your life today?
Prayer
Father, thank You for Your faithfulness, even when I doubt or fall short. Help me to trust in Your power and to step boldly into the calling You have for me. Like Peter, may I lay aside my fears and follow You wholeheartedly. Thank You for Your grace and strength. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
