Devotion

In Exodus 7-9, we witness God’s mighty power displayed through the plagues in Egypt. Pharaoh’s heart remains hardened as God sends each plague, demonstrating His supremacy over all earthly powers. The purpose of these signs is not only to free the Israelites from slavery but to reveal God’s authority to Egypt and to Israel. Despite Pharaoh’s resistance, God’s plan moves forward with unwavering precision, showing His commitment to His people and His covenant. This passage reminds us that God is fully able to intervene and act on behalf of His people, even when circumstances seem unchangeable.

Psalm 105 reflects on God’s faithfulness throughout Israel’s history. The psalmist urges God’s people to *“remember the wonders He has done, His miracles, and the judgments He pronounced”* (Psalm 105:5). Psalm 105 recounts God’s care, guidance, and power to protect His people, from Abraham’s time through the Exodus. By remembering God’s past faithfulness, the Israelites are encouraged to trust in His present and future promises. This psalm is an invitation for us to pause and remember the ways God has been faithful in our lives, knowing that His character never changes.

Ephesians 1 reveals the incredible blessings we have in Christ. Paul writes that, in Christ, we have been chosen, redeemed, and marked with the seal of the Holy Spirit. God’s grace has given us an inheritance that is both present and eternal, as He calls us His own and blesses us with every spiritual blessing. Paul prays that believers would grasp the depth of God’s love and the “hope to which He has called you, the riches of His glorious inheritance” (Ephesians 1:18). These words remind us of the immeasurable blessings of belonging to God and that, through Christ, we have been given everything we need for life and godliness.

Together, these passages encourage us to remember God’s mighty power, His unwavering faithfulness, and the richness of our inheritance in Christ. The plagues in Egypt show that nothing can stand against God’s purposes. Psalm 105 reminds us to actively remember and celebrate God’s past faithfulness, using it as a foundation to trust Him today. And Ephesians 1 calls us to embrace our identity as God’s chosen people, blessed with an eternal inheritance and the assurance of His love. In every challenge, we can stand firm, knowing that God’s power is at work in and for us, just as it was for Israel.

  2. What does it mean to you to be chosen and blessed with every spiritual blessing in Christ, as described in Ephesians 1?
  3. How can you keep God’s faithfulness at the forefront of your mind, like the psalmist in Psalm 105?

Prayer

Lord, thank You for Your incredible power and faithfulness. Help us to remember Your mighty acts and the ways You have shown us Your love. We are grateful that in Christ, we have been given every spiritual blessing, chosen to be Your people. Let these truths strengthen our faith and guide us as we face challenges, knowing that You are with us and that Your purposes will always prevail.
