Today's Reading
Old Testament
- 1 Samuel 1-2
- Psalm 120
- Acts 5
Devotion
Hannah’s story in 1 Samuel 1-2 is one of deep longing, persistent prayer, and ultimate surrender. She desperately wanted a child and cried out to the Lord, vowing that if He gave her a son, she would dedicate him to His service. God answered her prayer, and in an incredible act of faith, Hannah fulfilled her vow, giving Samuel back to the Lord to serve in the temple. Instead of clinging to her blessing, she praised God, declaring: “My heart rejoices in the Lord; in the Lord my horn is lifted high. (1 Samuel 2:1)
Hannah’s trust in God shows us the power of surrender—when we place our deepest desires in God's hands, He is faithful to work in ways beyond our imagination.
In Acts 5, we see another example of unwavering devotion—this time, from the apostles. When they were arrested and ordered to stop preaching about Jesus, they boldly declared: “We must obey God rather than human beings!” (Acts 5:29)
Just as Hannah surrendered Samuel to the Lord, the apostles surrendered their safety, reputation, and lives for the sake of Christ. Their boldness was fueled by their complete trust in God, knowing that obedience to Him was more important than anything the world could offer.
Finally, Psalm 120 reminds us that in times of distress, we can always call on the Lord. Whether we are waiting on His promises like Hannah, facing opposition like the apostles, or feeling overwhelmed by life’s troubles, God hears our prayers and is our ever-present help.

Reflection Questions
- What desires or burdens do you need to surrender to God, as Hannah did?
- Are you willing to obey God, even when it’s difficult or unpopular, like the apostles?
- How can you trust in God’s timing and faithfulness in your own life?
Prayer
Lord, thank You for being faithful in every season. Help me to surrender my desires, my fears, and my plans to You, knowing that You are working for my good. Give me the boldness of the apostles to stand for You, even when it is difficult. In times of distress, remind me that I can call on You, and You will hear me. I trust in Your perfect plan. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
