Strength in Surrender
Today's Reading
Old Testament
- Judges 7-8
- Luke 22
Devotion
In Judges 7-8, we see the incredible story of Gideon leading a small army of just 300 men against a vast enemy. At first, Gideon had thousands of soldiers, but God reduced their numbers so that Israel would know that victory came from Him, not their own strength. With only torches, jars, and trumpets, Gideon’s army defeated the Midianites, proving that God's power is made perfect in weakness.
In Luke 22, we see a different battle—Jesus, on the night of His betrayal, surrenders His will to the Father. In the Garden of Gethsemane, He prays, “Father, if you are willing, remove this cup from me. Nevertheless, not my will, but yours, be done” (Luke 22:42). Though He could have called legions of angels to rescue Him, He chose obedience, trusting the Father’s plan for redemption.
Both Gideon and Jesus teach us an important truth: Victory comes not through our strength, but through surrender to God. Gideon had to lay down his reliance on numbers, while Jesus laid down His very life. As followers of Christ, we, too, are called to surrender—our fears, our plans, and our desires—so that God can work through us.
Are you facing a battle today? Perhaps God is calling you to trust in Him rather than your own ability. True strength is found in surrendering to God’s will, knowing that He is in control and will bring victory in His perfect way.

- What is God calling you to surrender to Him today?
- Do you trust that God’s power is greater than your weaknesses?
- How can Jesus’ example in the Garden of Gethsemane encourage you to trust God’s plan?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I surrender my plans, my fears, and my weaknesses to You. Help me to trust that You are in control, just as You were with Gideon and Jesus. Give me the strength to walk in obedience, even when it is difficult, knowing that Your ways are higher than mine. Thank You for being my victory. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
