Choose Life and Trust in God's Kingdom
Today's Reading
Old Testament
- Deuteronomy 27-31
- Luke 12
Devotion
In Deuteronomy 27-31, Moses presents Israel with a crucial choice—life or death, blessings or curses. God desires His people to walk in obedience, not just for the sake of rules, but for their flourishing. **Deuteronomy 30:19-20** declares:
"This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live and that you may love the Lord your God, listen to his voice, and hold fast to him."
Choosing life means wholeheartedly following God, trusting His commands, and keeping Him first. It’s an invitation, not a demand—God desires willing hearts devoted to Him.
In Luke 12, Jesus echoes this call to trust and obedience, warning against the distractions of wealth, worry, and worldly concerns. He teaches:
"But seek his kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well." (Luke 12:31)
Just as Israel was told to follow God and experience His blessings, Jesus reminds us that when we prioritize His kingdom, we have no need to fear. The world urges us to chase security, success, and comfort, but Jesus calls us to trust in God’s provision and seek Him first.
Both passages remind us that choosing life means choosing faith over fear, trust over self-reliance, and obedience over compromise. Will we live for God’s kingdom, or will we be consumed by the worries of this world?

Father, I choose life today. I choose to trust You, to seek Your kingdom, and to follow Your ways. Free me from distractions and worries that pull me away from You. Help me walk in faith, knowing that You are my provider and protector. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
