Trusting in God's Leadership
Today's Reading
Old Testament
- 1 Samuel 9-10
- Acts 8
Devotion
In 1 Samuel 9-10, we witness the anointing of Saul as Israel's first king. Saul, a man from the tribe of Benjamin, was chosen by God, though he initially felt unworthy. When Samuel anointed him, he was empowered by the Holy Spirit, and God promised to be with him as he led the people of Israel. Saul’s story shows that God often calls the unlikely, and He equips those He chooses for His purposes.
Saul’s hesitation reflects a common response—feeling inadequate or unqualified for what God is calling us to do. But, just like Saul, when God calls us, He also provides the strength and wisdom we need. It’s not about our ability, but about His sufficiency.
In Acts 8, we see the power of the Holy Spirit at work in the life of Philip. When Philip is led by the Spirit to the Ethiopian eunuch, he doesn’t hesitate to follow God’s prompting. He boldly shares the gospel, and the eunuch is baptized. This story highlights the importance of being sensitive to the Holy Spirit’s leading and being willing to step out in faith. Just as Saul was anointed with the Spirit for a task, Philip was empowered to be a witness of Christ, showing us that God empowers us to fulfill His calling.
God calls us to His purpose and equips us to fulfill it. We may feel unqualified, but He gives us everything we need—His Holy Spirit, His wisdom, and His guidance.

Prayer
Lord, thank You for calling me to Your purposes. Help me to trust in Your provision and the power of Your Holy Spirit. Like Saul, may I follow Your lead even when I feel unworthy, and like Philip, may I be bold in sharing the gospel. Empower me to live out Your calling with faith and obedience. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
