Called to Reflect His Glory

Today's Reading

Old Testament
  • Ezekiel 1-3

New Testament
  • John 1

Devotion

In Ezekiel 1–3, the prophet encounters an overwhelming vision of God’s glory—a storm, flashes of lightning, and creatures full of eyes and motion. Above it all, Ezekiel sees a throne and the likeness of a man glowing with fire and surrounded by radiant light. The sight causes him to fall on his face. God calls Ezekiel to be His messenger, to speak His words whether the people listen or not. Ezekiel’s call begins not with his own strength but with the awe-inspiring presence of God that humbles and empowers him.

John 1 begins with the same truth revealed in a new way. The Word was with God and was God. This eternal Word took on flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen His glory, full of grace and truth. The glory that Ezekiel saw from a distance is now made known in the person of Jesus Christ. He is the light shining in the darkness—the one who reveals God’s heart and calls us to bear witness to His truth.

Both Ezekiel and John remind us that encountering God’s glory changes everything. We are not called to speak or live for God from our own wisdom but from the revelation of who He is. Like Ezekiel, we are sent into a world that may resist His truth. Like John, we are called to point to the Light that no darkness can overcome.

Reflection Questions

  1. How does remembering the greatness and holiness of God inspire humility and courage in my daily life?
  2. Ezekiel was called to speak God’s truth even when people would not listen. Where might God be calling me to be faithful rather than successful?
  3. John describes Jesus as the Word made flesh. How can I reflect His light and truth in the spaces where I live and work?

Prayer

Lord, You are holy and full of glory. Thank You for revealing Yourself through Jesus Christ, the true Light of the world. Fill me with awe and humility before You. Strengthen me to live and speak Your truth faithfully, even when it is hard. Let my life reflect Your light and bring glory to Your name. Amen.
