Devotion

In Ezekiel 13–15, God confronts false prophets who speak lies in His name and promise peace when there is none. Their words are like walls built with weak mortar—structures that look strong but collapse when tested. God also condemns the people’s idolatry, comparing them to a vine that bears no fruit and is only fit for burning. These chapters remind us that God’s truth is solid and unshakable, and that He calls His people to be rooted in His Word, not in flattering lies or empty promises.

Psalm 136 stands in beautiful contrast. Every verse declares, His steadfast love endures forever. The psalm recounts God’s mighty acts—from creation to deliverance—and reminds His people that even when they are faithless, His love remains constant. While Ezekiel exposes human unfaithfulness, the psalm magnifies divine faithfulness. God’s love is not dependent on our worthiness but on His unchanging character.

In John 5, Jesus heals a man who had been disabled for thirty-eight years, demonstrating the mercy and authority of God in action. When questioned about healing on the Sabbath, Jesus declares that He works as His Father works, revealing that He is the Son of God. Like the prophets of old, Jesus speaks the truth boldly—but unlike the false prophets in Ezekiel, His word has the power to give life. Those who hear His voice and believe in Him cross from death to life.

Together, these passages teach that God’s Word is faithful and true, His love never fails, and His Son brings eternal life to all who believe. False promises and fruitless living lead to ruin, but the voice of Jesus leads to redemption and rest.

Reflection Questions

  1. In what ways do I need to guard my heart against false promises or teachings that sound comforting but don’t align with God’s truth?
  2. How does remembering that God’s steadfast love endures forever strengthen my faith in seasons of doubt or difficulty?
  3. Jesus’ word brings life—how can I listen more attentively to His voice through Scripture and prayer each day?

Prayer

Faithful God, thank You that Your Word is true and Your love endures forever. Help me to reject lies that lead me away from You and to cling to the truth found in Christ alone. Teach me to bear fruit that honors You and to live each day in gratitude for the life You’ve given me through Jesus. Amen.
